Kim Go-eun Becomes the Only Actress to Rank in the Gallup Korea’s 2024 Best Actor Poll

On December 19, Gallup Korea Research Institute (a South Korean company established in 1974, specializing in conducting public surveys on politics, society, entertainment, and sports) announced the results of its annual poll to determine the best actor and actress of 2024. The survey is part of a series of activities to identify the Top Personalities of the Year conducted by the company.

A total of 1,741 South Koreans from all regions (excluding Jeju Island), aged 13 and above, participated in the survey, which took place from November 11 to 25.

Ma Dong-seok topped the list with 26.5% of the votes for his role in “The Roundup 4: Punishment,” which became the fastest film to surpass 6 million viewers in 2024. He also ranked first in 2023, thanks to his role in “The Roundup 3: No Way Out.” There is a high likelihood that he will maintain this ranking in 2025 as “The Roundup 5” is set to be released in the new year.

Hwang Jung-min came second (14.2%), with roles in multiple successful films, such as “12.12: The Day,” “Mission: Cross,” and “I, the Executioner.”

Kim Go-eun ranked third (12.2%) for her performance in Exhuma, which also helped Choi Min-shik (4th) and Yoo Hae-jin (9th) make the top 10.

Fifth place went to Lee Jung-jae (10%) for his role in “The Acolyte.” Despite not appearing in any films in 2024, Lee Byung-hun still earned 6th place (8.3%). Seventh place went to veteran actor Song Kang-ho (7.3%) for his role in “Uncle Samsik.”

Jung Woo-sung also made the list with 5.3% of the votes for his performance in “12.12: The Day.” Finally, the 10th position went to Son Suk-koo (3.4%) for his roles in “Night Fishing” and “Troll Factory.”

Previously, on June 19, Gallup Korea also announced the result of the survey about netizen’s favorite talents from March 22 to April 5.

Kim Soo-hyun came in first place with the most votes accounting for 6.4%. Nam Goong-min and Kim Ji-won tied for second spot with 2.9%, while Cha Eun-woo and Kim Nam-joo tied for 4th place with 2.7%. Other names in TOP 10 were Choi Soo-jong (2.5%), Song Joong-ki (2.3%), Choi Bul-am (2.2%), Go Doo-shim (2.0%), and Kim Go-eun (1.8%).

Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won aroused keen public attention with their performances as Baek Hyun-woo and Hong Hae-in, respectively, in tvN’s hit drama “Queen of Tears”, which ended in late April. At the same time, Cha Eun-woo and Kim Nam-joo appeared in MBC’s drama “Wonderful World” as Kwon Sun-yul and Eun Soo-hyun. Choi Soo-jong played Kang Gam-chan in KBS 2TV’s historical drama “Goryeo–Khitan War” and Nam Goong-min portrayed Lee Jang-hyun in MBC’s “My Dearest”.

Kim Soo-hyun also ranked No.1 in 2014 after starring in SBS’s drama “My Love From The Star”. The actors in TOP 10 are all loved for their outstanding acting skills and have been active for more than a decade. The actor with the shortest career is Cha Eun-woo, who debuted in 2014, and the most experienced actor is Choi Bul-am, who debuted in 1967.

Other talents who received votes of more than 1% were Han So-hee, Kim Hye-ja, Park Eun-bin (1.7%), Park Seo-joon (1.6%), Son Ye-jin (1.5%), Song Hye-kyo, Kim Yoo-jung (1.2%), Jeon Ji-hyun, Kim Hye-soo (1.1%), and Jo Jung-suk, Lee Bo-young, Gong Yoo (1.0%).
